My client invests, develops, operates, and manages renewable energy assets and provides sophisticated financing, supply and risk-management strategies for power users. This organisation is also currently developing a portfolio of over 12GW of energy and battery assets globally, with 6GW of this coming from the UK, Germany, and Netherlands. They are relatively small at 60 experienced energy professionals but are entering a period of rapid growth, with the team in Germany being their main focus to develop.
This is a full-time position in Germany which will primarily support German business with the development and construction of large-scale ground-mounted solar PV projects. They are seeking an experienced and energetic legal specialist who will support the business by ensuring legal compliance at all stages in its venture of growth.
Legal Support and Project Development:
- Pro-actively and autonomously provide legal support in solar project development and general corporate business.
- Serve as the primary legal contact for all solar PV project matters in Germany.
- Establish relationships with stakeholders involved in legal matters for successful project development and daily corporate operations.
- Negotiate and finalize agreements with third-party contractors, with support from the legal team.
- Manage legal processes for solar PV projects in Germany.
- Provide high-standard, best-practice legal support during the project construction process, including drafting, negotiating, and finalizing key project agreements such as EPC and O&M contracts.
- Participate in various project lifecycle stages, including SPV incorporation, land agreements, PPAs, and project financing.
- Offer high-standard, best-practice legal support for corporate business matters such as NDAs, LOIs, JV agreements, consultancy agreements, and corporate authorizations.
- Monitor legislative changes and their impact on the development pipeline and future projects.
- Instruct and manage external lawyers.
General Responsibilities:
- Develop procedures and build a knowledge base to drive best practices and deliver a competitive edge.
- Build relationships within the renewable energy sector to acquire suitable projects at various development stages.
Reporting:
- Report on legal project status, progress, timelines, quality, and risks to senior management and the company.
Requirements:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area. German-qualified lawyer preferred, but candidates qualified in other jurisdictions will be considered.
- 5-10 years’ experience as a construction lawyer, preferably in renewable energy.
- High-level understanding and interest in various project aspects, including development, technical, offtake, O&M, and project finance.
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and commercial skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Flexible, creative, and entrepreneurial mindset with a positive attitude and ability to perform under pressure.
- Self-driven with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail.
- Fluency in German and English, both spoken and written.
- IT literacy, with familiarity with Microsoft applications including Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within or to Germany and abroad.
- Right to work in Germany (if hired in Germany) or the UK (if hired in the UK).
