OpportunityOverview
Rhythm is seeking an experiencedMedical Director responsible for Germany, Switzerland and Austria(GSA), based in the GSA cluster, with exceptional scientific andmedical expertise to join our team. In this role, you will lead anddevelop an expanding team consisting of 6 Scientific AffairsManagers (SAMs) in Germany and – with a dotted line – 2 CountryOperations Leads (COLs) in their medical function in Austria andSwitzerland. The primary task of the Medical Director will be toshape scientific, medical, strategic and operational excellencethroughout the GSA organization, foster interactions with ourcenters of excellence and external experts, ensure best in classset-up and implementation of scientific projects, and enhanceRhythm’s reputation as a leading biopharmaceutical company in thefield of rare neuroendocrine diseases. Reporting to the GeneralManager GSA, the Medical Director will collaborate closely with theGSA commercial and International Diagnosis and Medical Affairsteams.

Responsibilities andDuties

  1. Lead and develop theGSA medical affairs team. The incumbent will have managementresponsibility for the German SAM team, with a dotted line to theCountry Operations Leads Austria and Switzerland in medical affairsmatters.
  2. Leverage synergies and developindividual strengths of all team members to shape a high-performingmedical affairs team.
  3. Foster excellence andestablish high standards in scientific and medical competences,value-based customer interaction, and project execution amongst theSAM/COL team. Set up and implement training/coaching measures asneeded.
  4. Develop and execute a highly efficient,integrated Medical Affairs strategy for the GSA cluster inalignment with the GM; ensure that the strategy is clearly definedand consistent with clinical development and commercial strategicobjectives.
  5. Secure generation and disseminationof RWE data within and beyond theGSA.
  6. Collaborate closely with the GM, localMarketing & Sales teams and the International Diagnosis,Medical, Market Access and Legal teams to align on the GSA businessplan, leveraging best practices, analytics andKPIs.
  7. Provide scientific and medical expertiseand support and serve as a subject matterexpert.
  8. Foster relationships with leadingprincipal investigators and external experts, and relevant medicalsocieties, thereby representing Rhythm and strengthening itsreputation in its therapeutic areas.
  9. Identifyeducation gaps or unmet needs in the health care provider communityand facilitate appropriate discussion to formulate approaches toaddress the unmet needs through medical, scientific exchange andeducational material/campaigns.
  10. Work closelywith internal stakeholders across the product development lifecycleto influence clinical trial study design and identify, inform, anddeliver on needs for post-marketing clinical trials andregistries.
  11. Foster ongoing generation ofmedical insights and competitive intelligence and set up and updaterespective intelligence databases.
  12. Align withPV and MedInfo team and secure seamless and timely processing ofproduct safety data and customer medicalrequests.

Qualificationsand Skills
  1. Degree in Medicine or PhDin Sciences required.
  2. Preferred 8-10+ years’experience in medical affairs for the biotech and/or pharmaceuticalindustry.
  3. 5+ years leadership experiencepreferentially in medical teams.
  4. Preferredexperience in Endocrinology, Genetics, Internal Medicine, orPediatrics.
  5. Rare Diseases knowledge is aplus.
  6. Track record in leading strategic medicalprojects and best-in-class tactical execution, as well as incustomer interaction.
  7. Ability to understand andeffectively communicate scientific and medical data results andinformation to internal and externalstakeholders.
  8. Excellent communication andpresentation skills; fluent in English and ideally a secondEuropean language.
  9. Proven ability to work in ateam environment and build solid working relationships withincommercial and other functions nationally andinternationally.
  10. Demonstrated in-depthunderstanding of drug development and local regulations relating topromotional activities.
  11. Ability to travel asnecessary (up to50%).
