As a Principal Data Scientist at Aignostics, you will playa crucial role in shaping the scientific and technical directionand integrity of our data science platform, projects, and products.You will work hand in hand with our collaborators in academia andindustry to push the state of the art for digital pathology. Yourexpertise will be instrumental in driving scientific and technicalexcellence across all data science teams, ensuring we deliverhigh-quality, scalable solutions that transform complex biomedicaldata into actionable insights for cancer research and diagnostics.You will report directly to our VP of Data Science.

Data Science or Machine Learning?We do both at Aignostics, and are convinced that both are neededfor success. You can expect to work on a broad spectrum of topicsfrom deep learning with foundation and other state-of-the-artmodels on terabytes of data to projects in low sample regimes andvery high-dimensional and multimodal data. Where your expertise isneeded
  • Own the technical directionand scientific integrity of our data science platform, models, aswell as algorithms
  • Advise our CTO and VP ofData Science on the data science vision of Aignostics
  • Align our data science strategy with business objectivesto provide a competitive advantage
  • Resolvetechnical and scientific conflicts across teams and harmonizemodels, analyses, and technologies to unlock synergies
  • Advise product management on technical and scientificfeasibility, cost, and risks of complex product features
  • Drive technical and scientific design, planning, andintegration of our platform across systems andalgorithms
  • Provide technical and scientificguidance in data science model, algorithm, and system designreviews for all teams
  • Educate senior andmid-level data scientists to bring them up to the nextlevel
  • Demonstrate long-term thinking andutmost technical and scientific excellence in your individualcontributions
  • Lead the technical andscientific strategic planning and execution across the TechOrg'squarterly roadmap
  • Champion the drive for thehighest standards across data science teams
  • Drive yearly operational readiness reviews of our datascience models, algorithms, and systems, collaborating with owningteams
  • Guide data science teams in maintainingup-to-date, high-quality documentation and code

What we are lookingfor
  • Advanced degree in DataScience, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, SoftwareEngineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years ofdata science development experience, with at least 5 years insenior leadership roles
  • Proven track record ofdriving technical and scientific excellence and innovation inorganizations with 50+ scientists and engineers
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulatecomplex technical concepts to both technical and non-technicalstakeholders
  • Extensive experience with machinelearning and statistical concepts, including advanced topics suchas self-supervised learning, foundation models, explainable AI(XAI), multimodal models, AutoML, or survival analysis
  • Extensive background in large-scale deep learning modelsand systems, machine learning and data science design patterns,software architecture, and clean coding
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementinglarge-scale, distributed machine learning models andsystems
  • Extensive expertise in multipleprogramming languages and frameworks
  • Deepunderstanding of cloud technologies (GCP, AWS), containerizationand orchestration (Kubernetes)
Ideally, you also:
  • Contribute to open-source projects and technicalpublications
  • Have experience with large scaledata processing systems such as Ray, Spark, etc.
  • Have worked in a regulated environment, e.g. financialservices, aerospace or healthcare
  • Haveknowledge of digital pathology or medical imaging
  • Have experience with biomedical data processing andanalysis
