Job summary

St David�s School offers an English Education, with an international flavour, to children between 3 and 11 years of age, in Ramstein, Germany. We are a welcoming and lively community school with numbers on roll varying between 60-80 pupils, depending on military assignments. Classes are structured in mixed year groups with four class teachers, an Assistant Headteacher (AHT) and the Head Teacher. The AHT is a senior leader within the school with whole school responsibilities, including SENDCO, line management and regular teaching commitments. Leading by example, modelling best practice and working with teachers and support staff to constantly improve provision.

We are looking for a suitably experienced Assistant Headteacher to join a team whose culture and activity are driven by the core belief that every child should achieve their potential. �

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.

This is a full-time position for an Assistant Headteacher. Specially recruited for overseas service appointees are not expected to return to the UK. �

Job description

Lead and contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school�s policies, School improvement Plan, practices and procedures, so as to support the school�s values and vision.Lead on performance as line manager for staff, ensuring that they are supported, valued and held to account for their performance.Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.Lead and co-ordinate aspects of the curriculum offer ensuring intent, implementation and impact is consistently successful across the school.Lead and participate in the monitoring and evaluation of quality of education being achieved across the schoolLeading whole school events including regular assemblies, enhanced curriculum activities and parent workshops�Develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEND strategy and policyCarry out assessments of pupils with SEND to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parentsWork with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plansProvide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parentsMake referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school such as educational psychologists, health and social care providers and speech, language therapists and educational social workers.Provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SENDSupport teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroomDevelop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is accurate and up to dateAnalyse school, local and national data and develop appropriate strategies and interventionsAdhere to the expectations outlined in the extant DFE Teacher Standards and work towards achieving the Headteacher Standards.The full job description is available as an attachment.

Person specification

The post holder will be required to hold Qualified Teacher status and demonstrate the following essential skills, knowledge and experience: �

Recent experience of teaching the National Curriculum for England for a minimum of 5 years and senior leadership experience ( leadership of a key stage) in a UK based or DCS school.NASENCo qualification or a willingness to carry out the qualification shortly after taking up post.�Evidence of high-quality teaching, setting high expectations and proven experience of ensuring good progress and outcomes for all pupils.Successful experience of modelling, coaching and supporting colleagues to achieve improvement.Proven experience of making accurate assessments, and using assessment tools, that inform planning and enable pupils to improve.�Demonstrate effective behaviour management that ensures a good and safe learning environment.Willing to make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
