W2 Stand-In Professor of Machine Components

In our Department of Engineering and Industrial Design, we place particular importance on open dealings with one another, cooperation between colleagues, good supervision of students and excellent teaching quality.
Your Duties:- You will carry out teaching and research in the following application-oriented subject areas: Machine Components and Engineering Mechanics.
- There will be a particular focus on teaching. The courses on the Bachelor's programme in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering as well as Sustainable Resources, Engineering and Management plus possible interdisciplinary teaching comprise theoretical and practical classes as well as project-type classes.
- You will be committed to strengthening the specialist profile of the department, will work on an interdisciplinary basis in the context of cross-departmental cooperation and will be involved in the development of the range of international programmes offered in the department.
- It goes without saying that you will be committed to technology and knowledge transfer and cooperation with regional and international stakeholders as well as to contributing to the development of the university.
- Moreover, it is important to us that you be involved in academic self-governance.
You will be a good fit with us if you are an enthusiastic teacher and researcher and enjoy supporting our students with their learning as well as encouraging them in their chosen career.
- You will have successfully completed a university degree and possess a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally be evidenced by a qualifying doctoral degree (or alternatively achievements equivalent to a doctorate) with relevance to the engineering sciences (preferably in mechanical engineering). Publications in the area of appointment will be advantageous.
- You will be able to show evidence of pedagogic experience. You will be able to communicate information in a clear and practically oriented manner, be it face-to-face, online or via hybrid teaching methods / blended learning scenarios. Experience of teaching in universities, in adult, further or continuing education or in-house corporate training will be advantageous.
- You will be able to demonstrate particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in all areas of mechanical engineering. You will have accomplished these in professional practice of at least three years' duration outside of the higher education sector.
- Ideally you will have experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and the management of research projects. Equally, international experience is highly desirable.
- You will be able to lead groups of students and teams of colleagues and empathise with the students' concerns. Through your willingness to work in teams and talent for communication, you will demonstrate your enjoyment of working with students and collaborating with students and colleagues in constructive discourse for the good of the university.
- You know how to convey scientific knowledge in an easily understandable way in both German and English and to communicate securely in German in everyday life at the university.
The general conditions of appointment for professors are derived from § 35 para. 2 of the current version of the Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act in conjunction with the regulations governing appointments of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences (BO) dated In accordance with § 24 para. 2 of the regulations governing appointments at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, in the case of suitable junior academics it may be possible to deviate from the above-mentioned conditions of employment.
The appointment will be a fixed-term contract in accordance with § 49a of the Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act.
This post is aimed specifically at qualified junior academics who are seeking to gain initial professorial experience. In addition, we are seeking to increase the proportion of female members of staff at the university. For this reason we are particularly pleased to receive applications from suitably qualified women. Qualified female junior academics will be supported should they wish to pursue a professional activity as part of their part-time employment as a stand-in professor in order to gain further practical experience. As teaching and the integration of the university in the region are high priorities, your supervision of students will primarily be in person. Accordingly, we assume that in order to fulfil the duties of the professorship, you will be based in the region. Some teaching and self-governance tasks may also be performed online, provided that it is possible to contact you.
