About the role
As the Managing Director for the German Market, you are directly responsible for the German's performance and long term growth of the business, which is a clear market leader in the online takeaway sector. Our German business went from strengths to strengths, and we grew our orders and revenues exponentially. The online takeaway sector is intensely competitive, and in line with our strategic objectives, the business needs to drive profitability through a hybrid marketplace, ensuring an efficient and optimized service proposition for our brands partnerships while complementing its well established traditional marketplace business and driving value for our independent Restaurant Partners. Alongside this, the brand needs to remain relevant, top of mind and most loved, with the best choice and the best customer experience to drive acquisition, loyalty and frequency amongst its customer base.

The Managing Director will take responsibility for all operational functions, providing strong leadership to a population of about 1000 employees (direct and indirect) and maintaining a winning culture consistent with the Company Values. Team spirit and an environment that fosters engagement and high performance is critical.
The role will have P&L accountability and is responsible for driving the business forward, building the German's business plans to deliver the company's key strategic objectives in line with the 3 Year Planning Cycle. These include:
- Driving growth and leverage in the core Marketplace business
- Scaling and optimisation of the delivery proposition
- Launching and scaling incremental revenue streams including ensuring Grocery becomes a significant % of our overall business over next 3 years
- Enhancing the hybrid experience for both consumers and restaurants
- Driving continuous improvement, organizational efficiency and a streamlined structure and cost base
Additional key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership of the German management team, ensuring they are a cohesive and high performing team and providing 1:1 and team coaching and guidance on the development of their functional plans and roadmaps in line with the overall strategic objectives of the business and group.
- As an integral part of the Northern Europe Leadership team work with other senior stakeholders to drive business initiatives and key company decisions.
- Managing the business to achieve financial and non-financial targets, ensuring that risks and opportunities are continually assessed and managed, like Order growth, Revenue, EBITDA, Online Partners, market share, NPS, Delivery efficiency and Employee engagement.
- Play a key and influential role in the development of our relationships with strategic accounts and brands
- Extend and strengthen relationships with relevant industry bodies, key national decision makers and have a strong public profile.
- Managing the local commercial team, building team spirit and representing the company towards employee bodies.
What will you bring to the table
- Significant prior experience in a 'number one' role, either at group or divisional level, managing large diverse teams of people and have a solid track record of improving operational performance and effectiveness.
- Ability to think strategically and develop and communicate a compelling vision
- Recognised as an inspirational leader by their team, peer group and external network
- Relevant industry experience from a consumer oriented business, preferably with significant exposure to Technology and/or e-Commerce and the hunger to succeed within a commercially led operating environment
- Outstanding analytical skills and ability to manipulate data to extract insights and tell a meaningful story that provokes action
- High levels of emotional intelligence; able to coach, develop and mentor at all levels
- Able to build, maintain and influence productive cross-functional relationships to drive business and create high performing teams through thoughtful yet decisive leadership and a positive 'can-do, get it done' attitude.
- Calculated risk taker who is sensitive to changing priorities and able to work as a change agent within the business
- Able to set clear goals, devise plans, attend to appropriate details, meet deadlines, and inspire others to move in an established direction
