PhD Researcher (f/m/x) Studying the metabolic interaction within a microbiome model system, focusing on the production of nucleotides
The job
We are seeking an enthusiastic PhD Researcher (f/m/x) to study the metabolic interaction within a microbiome model system, focusing on the production of nucleotides in the Department of Molecular Toxicology. The DFG-funded project aims to decipher nucleotides' role in the human microbiome model system SIHUMIx.
Your tasks
Cultivate the SIHUMIx consortium in anaerobic continuous bioreactors and manipulate specific species by the CRISP/CAS approach
Characterize the effects of modified gene expression of selected species on the metabolomic level of the various species and the overall community metabolism by mass-spectrometry-based targeted and untargeted metabolomics and metaproteomics
Integrate the omics-results with bioinformatic approaches and also with the results from genome-based metabolic modelling to identify pathways of metabolic regulation within the various species and in the species-species interaction
Participate in laboratory group meetings including presentation of results
Present your results at international conferences and prepare publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
We offer
Excellent supervision and optimal professional and interdisciplinary qualification through our HIGRADE graduate programme
The freedom to master even the most demanding challenges between basic research and practical application
The opportunity to work in interdisciplinary, international teams and benefit from a wide range of perspectives
First class integration into national and international research networks to work together on global challenges
Excellent research infrastructure and research data management to optimally support your work

Your profile
M.Sc. degree (or near completion) in biochemistry, microbiology, bioinformatics or related fields
Experience in cultivation of bacteria
Profound knowledge of microbiology
Strong interest in mass-spectrometry-based analysis of metabolites and proteins
