The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics as an institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (registered association) is the largest center for fusion research in Europe with about 1,100 employees in Garching near Munich and Greifswald. The scientists are investigating the physical principles for a fusion power plant which – like the sun – generates energy from the fusion of light atomic nuclei. Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/div) in Experimental Physics – Microwave Technology for the Investigation of High Temperature Plasma Turbulence
Aufgaben
- Investigate plasma density fluctuations, in particular the temporal evolution of radial correlation lengths and oscillating sheared flows
- Operation and development of new microwave technology for the radar-based probing of plasma fluctuations
- Develop and maintain suitable control software for communication and setup of aforementioned microwave systems
Profil
- PhD in experimental physics or electrical engineering
- Knowledge of high temperature plasma physics
- Experience and knowledge of microwave technology and microwave propagation in refractive media (preferable plasmas)
- Knowledge of plasma and/or hydrodynamic turbulence
- Python knowledge

- Ability to present complex scientific and technical issues in English and German

The position is limited to a duration of two years. The salary is based on the assignment of tasks and qualifications and goes up to pay group 13 according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund).
