The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. We are hiring a Research Associate on AI in Government (gn) on a 50% (20 hours/week) basis.
The contract shall commence in June 2024 and is limited to three years. It includes the possibility to conduct a PhD on AI in government. The Hertie School's Center for Digital Governance is currently expanding its capacity for research and capacity building on the adoption of AI in government. Thanks to generous funding from a sponsoring agreement with Sopra-Steria the Hertie School is seeking a highly motivated candidate to strengthen the Centre's research profile on AI adoption within government with a special focus on German public administration.
Your tasks:
- Your main task at the Hertie School will be to develop your own research agenda centered on AI adoption within government, aligning it with the Centre's other activities in order to evolve it into a competence cluster. Clear expectation is an ambition to contribute to international conferences and journals.
- Development of teaching materials (eg case studies) for master courses and executive trainings on AI in government (both in German and English)
- Serving as liaison officer for joint activities (eg short studies, events, training activities) in collaboration with Sopra-Steria
- In a minor role also contributing to Center activities related to government digitalization/AI in government
Your profile:
- An excellent university degree (Master or equivalent) in (Public) Management, Public Administration, Data Science, Information Systems/IT, Public Policy, or a related field (with graduation no later than mid 2024)
- Knowledge and keen interest both in AI/Data Science and German public administration
- Experience in supporting research or knowledge/training programs is a bonus
- Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills
- An excellent command of English and full fluency in German.
