Epidemiologist / Data Scientist (m/f/d)
Who we are: The Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital has a clinical and research mandate. We are embedded in a university campus with a strong interdisciplinary health research focus (incl. the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health). We are a diverse and interdisciplinary team of people from around the globe, all passionate about Global health, focusing on applying various methods with the goal to develop, validate and implement novel diagnostic tests that reach people and get them to the right therapy (For further info on the team and research:
We need your expertise, passion and drive to support the team. The position is limited to 3 years with the intention to make it longer term. partial remote work will be possible.

Working hours: full-time (100 %
As an Epidemiologist/ Data scientist, you will contribute to several ongoing projects in the team which require advanced data analysis. You will also be expected to lead methodologically on projects that focus on data analysis to develop new diagnostic prediction tools. There will be opportunities to develop your own ideas on projects and apply for funding.
Analyzing large data sets and developing prediction tools based on traditional structured database tools and «big data» approaches with a special focus on Bayesian analysis
Engaging with project collaborators, stakeholders and international organizations (incl. WHO) in large international projects
Writing of manuscripts for publication and preparing scientific/project presentations (incl. Supporting / leading grant development activities
Support / supervision of junior researchers in designing and performing data analysis
Master or PhD degree in (Bio-)Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, or a related field
Minimum 2 years of experience in data analyses using frequentist and Bayesian approaches. Experience in handling large data sets. Experience in machine learning techniques would be an asset
Proficiency in coding and analysis using R, SAS, python, STATA or similar applications; ability to provide custom-designed reports and presentations of data
