Your role
You will lead an independent research group to pursue exciting, ambitious and original research in the broad domain of genome biology. The future group will be embedded in a very interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, which promotes and supports interaction with other research groups. As a new faculty member at EMBL, you will also be part of the wider EMBL community, and can therefore avail of the multidisciplinarity and breadth of research throughout the institute.
EMBL generally appoints group leaders early in their career and provides a very supportive, collegial and family friendly environment in which to develop original, leading-edge research. Significant yearly core funding for the entire stay, access to world leading core facilities, outstanding Ph.D. students and post-docs combined with very limited teaching obligations allow you to successfully lead an ambitious, farsighted research program.
Applicants from any area of genome biology that dissect and/or model complex processes will be considered, including innovative programs in the fields of genome regulation (transcription, translation, protein activity), genome engineering, proteomics, genotype-phenotype-environment interactions, single-cell biology.

You have
You should have a concise research plan with original and ambitious research goals. You should have an excellent Ph.D. and post-doctoral track record in natural sciences, with an interest in the wider field of genome geology. Applicants with a degree in computer science, (bio)informatics/mathematics, engineering, physics with a keen interest to understand the molecular complexity of cells and how that changes, are also encouraged to apply.
You should be strongly motivated to collaborate with surrounding colleagues, and to train, nuture and mentor your team.
You might also have
EMBL’s scientific direction, Molecules to Ecosystems, include a vision to advance our understanding of ecosystems at the molecular level, applying expertise in molecular biology to study life in its natural context. Research areas include applying experimental, computational and theoretical approaches to study how cells and organisms interact with each other and respond to environmental change, at multiple levels (molecules, cells, tissues and populations). These themes are embedded in the research within the Genome Biology Unit and we are interested in hosting scientists that can enhance and extend these research areas in creative innovative ways.
