Your responsibilities

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

We offer a full-time (PostDoc) research position for 2.5-years as part of the project "Mapping Effects of Environmental Policies (MEEP)" () funded by the Joachim Hertz Stiftung. MEEP seeks to conduct novel quasi-experimental studies on the effects of environmental polices and to assemble an open-science platform featuring interactive maps of the effects of environmental policies. The successful applicant is expected to conduct independent and collaborative research that contributes to the project. This can relate to empirical research in the domain of climate-, energy-, environmental- or labor-economics.

The position is embedded in an exciting research environment comprising more than ten researchers that focus on Environmental Economics at the University of Hamburg. The successful applicant will be part of an interdisciplinary research team with experience in empirical analyses and modelling. Team members are currently located at the Department of Economics at the University of Hamburg (Basaglia, Bos, Drupp), the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (Schaumann) and Georgetown University (Sager). Related research of the MEEP-team has been published both in general economics journals (e.g., American Economic Journal: Economic Policy) and interdisciplinary journals (e.g., Nature Climate Change, Science).

Specific duties for the position may include, but are not limited to, research that draws on empirical approaches to:

identify causal effects of environmental policies on environmental quality and economic outcomes explore distributional effects of environmental policies across socio-economic groups and demographics map the distribution of environmental quality across space and time communicate scientific evidence on environmental policies to the broader public write scientific papers and present their results at workshops and international conferences contribute to the intellectual life, and to a positive, inclusive atmosphere of the research group

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field plus doctorate.

PhD in Economics, particularly desirable is a focus on Empirical Environmental Economics documented expertise with data management, applied econometrics and quasi-experimental research, ideally with spatially-resolved analyses, or the clear interest to develop such expertise documented interest in climate-, energy-, environmental- or labor-economics, or the clear interest to expand research focus in one of those areas interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration interest in transdisciplinary research and societal transfer strong analytical and communication skills excellent English language capabilities german language skills are desirable but not necessar
