Your responsibilities:
Conduct original research on the formation processes and timescales of magmatic-hydrothermal or magmatic deposits of strategic and critical metals in the continental crust (70% time) Contribute to the operation of the radiogenic isotope laboratory facilities, including clean rooms, thermal ionization and multi-collector-inductively coupled mass spectrometers (30% time) Develop own projects on metal cycling and the formation of world-class ore deposits in the continental crust Demonstrate a strong interest in interdisciplinary work and scientific exchange with internal and external partners Report regularly to collaborators, publish peer reviewed papers in journals, open access data-sets and present results at conferences and workshop Actively engage and contribute to Section 3.1, the GFZ and broader scientific community
Your qualifications:
PhD degree in a discipline of geosciences or analytical chemistry applied to the geosciences Background knowledge in aspects of the following: magmatic or magmatic-hydrothermal systems in the continental crust, formation of some key types of critical and strategic metal deposits (e.g. Cu, Ni, platinum group elements, rare earth elements), radiogenic isotope systematics and analyses, elemental cycling in continental crustal rocks Demonstrated experience in working in clean laboratories, running thermal ionization mass spectrometers (Triton) and Neptune multi-collector ICP-MS instruments Proven ability in troubleshooting and basic maintenance of analytical instruments Familiarity with the analyses and interpretation of different types of geochemical data (e.g. bulk rock lithogeochemistry, stable isotopic data) is advantageous Demonstrated experience in publishing high quality papers in scientific journals The ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines and work in an interdisciplinary environment Evidence of leadership qualities Good spoken and written English is required, some knowledge of German or willingness to learn in the first year of the appointment is an advantage

Salary: The position is classed as salary group 13 according to “TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)”. The salary group is determined on the basis of the Collective Wage Agreement and the respective personal qualifications.
