Job Introduction

Serco provides the User Helpdesk and Data Centre Operations Service of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), which plays a key role in enhancing the use of EUMETSAT data, products and data services. The main objective of the service is to ensure effective and user-driven service to support the provision of data, as well as to provide comprehensive technical information to support all forms of user enquiries.

Serco is actively seeking a Stratos Engineer to join our esteemed team at DLR's Oberpfaffenhofen location, specifically within the Columbus Flight Operations Team.

Role Responsibility

As a Stratos Engineer, you will be a vital part of our mission, responsible for the seamless operation and management of the Columbus Module within the International Space Station (ISS). Your expertise will contribute directly to the success of space missions, ensuring the reliability and functionality of critical systems onboard the ISS. Further Responsibilities:

Operate the Columbus Module in a shift work scheme, ensuring monitoring and control of its systems Prepare Increment time frames and specific tasks, such as Columbus system hardware and software modifications for the Columbus system Monitor telemetry and telecommand systems for the Columbus Module and payloads, including Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS), Thermal Control System (TCS), Electrical Power and Distribution System (EPDS), Data Management System (DMS), Communications (COMMS), Mobile Payload Control Centre (MPCC), and Columbus-Ka (Col-Ka) Conduct real-time product development, reviews, and updates to ensure operational readiness Support Configuration Management in the control room, maintaining system integrity and documentation Provide Stage Analysis Support services for Guideline and Constraints disposition, ensuring compliance with operational standards Deliver operations product services to standard operations products and participate in regular interface meetings, including the provision of the weekly Basic Station Columbus Power profile to NASA Assist in the EDIT process, contributing to the enhancement and optimization of operational procedures Offer operational expertise in handling ISS onboard emergency cases and support the Anomaly Resolution process on the ISS level Support Mission Flight Database (MFDB) management and preparation services, ensuring accurate data records Assist the Columbus Onboard Software Cycle Transition Team in the implementation of software updates and transitions Provide Increment preparation and near-real-time increment execution support services, ensuring smooth mission operations Undergo training, including a 6-month training period with classroom lessons, on-the-job training, and simulations, leading to successful certification for on-console work

Successful Candidate

Bachelor's or master's degree in space engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field 1 to 3 years of experience in satellite operations, spacecraft systems engineering, or a similar role In-depth knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems, telemetry and telecommand systems, and configuration management processes Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle emergencies and troubleshoot complex systems Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proficiency in English Detail-oriented and organized, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic work environment Ability to work effectively in a shift work scheme, including nights, weekends, and holidays
