Summary:
In this role, you will collaborate across all business units of ADM as needed, primarily in Europe. Responsibilities include working closely with operations, technical CoEs, procurement, strategic sourcing, and commercial teams to capture value, ensure the deployment of best practices and standards, and align with business priorities. Your expertise in packaging systems as a packaging engineer is crucial for providing technical and operational performance leadership. You will be accountable for key performance indicators, measures of success, and applying safety and food safety/quality standards within all packaging technologies.
As a packaging engineer, you will monitor production processes, select packaging equipment, optimize packaging systems by considering packaging materials' cost vs. quality, solve production and packaging problems, and support capital projects. Your involvement may include sizing equipment, identifying capacity requirements, developing process control systems, improving efficiencies of packaging line equipment, and collaborating with packaging material suppliers. The role exposes you to the installation of new equipment, modifications to existing equipment, addressing training and startup issues following best practices and standards. Additionally, you will write technical reports from plant visits, support with follow-ups, and monitor, and in some cases, guide cost savings projects, packaging materials, and provide support with appropriate documentation. Your role will also involve initiating and managing supplier relationships in conjunction with Strategic Sourcing efforts.
ADM’s dry packaging operations involve the use of multiwall bags, drums, totes, pouches, and boxes. In the liquid packaging operations, it involves the use of PET, glass, Jerry Cans, Aseptic and UHT, Bag in box, and HDPE containers.
Key Accountabilities and Ownership: Leadership in packaging, warehousing, and material handling areas. Support capital and NDE projects. Support continuous improvement through Performance Excellence methodologies. Technical support for quality complaints. Safety and food safety standards improvements. Utilize KPIs and metrics to identify improvement areas and sustain value for continuous improvements. Develop and deploy best practices and packaging standards, including performance guarantees. Collaboration with other operations CoEs to capture value, ensure best practices and standards are deployed and align with business priorities. Capture areas to digitalize metrics. Drive value by overseeing packaging and warehousing systems and cost savings initiatives. Develop and optimize packaging processes. Define and build a prioritized global pipeline of packaging savings and improvement projects aligned with agreed packaging strategies with strategic sourcing. Support plant teams with troubleshooting problems related to packaging to help identify causes and solutions. Packaging materials specification support, testing, and analysis.
Qualifications:
B.S. in Engineering or Packaging Technology. 8+ years of operations experience, including 4+ years of direct packaging experience. Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical and/or electrical systems. Organized, detail-focused, and methodical. Project management skills. Preferred experience with Performance Excellence. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability. Basic knowledge of Process Safety and applications for designing packaging equipment. Knowledge of Food Safety best practices as it applies to packaging food products. Strong communication skills, verbal and written. This position will be part of the Packaging CoE and reports to the Director of Global Packaging.Travel: 25-50% in Europe.
This role would also require: Lifting and moving materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 14 kilograms frequently, up to 23 kilograms occasionally, and up to 25 kilograms overhead. Lifting or carrying weights exceeding 23 kilograms should be infrequent, and we encourage you to seek assistance for objects weighing more than 23 kilograms. Covering distances of up to approximately 3.2 kilometers during the workday. Maneuvering through a work site will require you to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, or squat, and may involve periods of prolonged sitting or standing. Operating equipment and diagnosing/detecting issues with machinery at various heights may be part of your responsibilities. This could involve working on ladders, scaffolding, or other elevated surfaces. This role requires you to have a complete range of physical motion to operate both manual and electrically powered tools and test equipment, move around the facility (including climbing stairs in all buildings), and perform tasks at elevated heights.
