The Department of Sociology is seeking an early-career researcher at the graduate or post-graduate level for a 12-month pilot project titled "Rescaling Conflict, Reskilling Humanitarianism?" funded by the German Peace Research Foundation. The project aims to elaborate understandings of aid operations from a critical labor and employment perspective, focusing on the role of logisticians and supply chain management workers employed in the international humanitarian field. The selected candidate will work with the project leader, Dr. Patricia Ward. As this is a pilot project, the selected candidate will play an important role in defining future directions of this research. Your Tasks conducting scientific research and interviews (online and face-to-face) on the project topic (40 %) analyzing and coding survey data (30 %) preparing research reports and publications in collaboration with the project management (30 %)
Employment is conducive to academic qualification. We offer salary according to Remuneration level 13 TV-L fixed-term (12 months) (§ 2 (1) sentence 1 of the WissZeitVG; in accordance with the provisions of the WissZeitVG and the Agreement on Satisfactory Conditions of Employment, the length of contract may differ in individual cases) part-time 65 % internal and external training opportunities variety of health, consulting and prevention services reconcilability of family and work flexible working hours supplementary company pension open and pleasant working atmosphere Your Profile We expect completed university degree (Master's, Magister, Diplom or comparable) in sociology or a related field of social sciences experience in conducting qualitative research ( interviews, ethnographic observations, archival work) and its evaluation Knowledge, experience and/or interest in the research topics of the pilot project ( aid/development, labor/transnational work) very good written and spoken English skills independent, self-reliant and dedicated style of work ability to cooperate and to work in a team high communication skills Preferred experience and skills advanced knowledge of other languages (e. g. Arabic, Italian and/or French) for research purposes working knowledge of software for coding qualitative data (e. g. Nvivo, MaxQDA) experience in practical or applied work related to the research topics is also an advantage Application Procedure
