R&D Data Engineer

The Role
We are heavily investing in digitalizing our ways of working and the role of Data Engineer has been created to support digitalization in our research and development (R&D) organization. The data engineer will be part of the Bioinformatics team in R&D working tightly together with data scientists and bioinformaticians in the team. We need you to design and implement data processing for R&D in collaboration with the IT organization, and with external cloud and data engineers. We are seeking someone with experience in different Azure Data Storage & Processing services: e.g. Azure Storage (Blob, File), CosmosDB, Databricks, Azure SQL etc.). The role includes the opportunity for development, and an attractive compensation package. The position is permanent and located in Darmstadt, Germany with occasional travel to Rajamäki, Finland.
You will be responsible for:
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and design solutions in Microsoft Azure that incorporate data processing techniques, ensuring responsiveness and efficiency in handling data Connect lab data with analysis pipelines and systems (e.g. LIMS), making data easily accessible by laboratory staff by utilising cloud-native tools in MS Azure Develop metadata-driven data processing workflows to automate and orchestrate data pipelines based on defined metadata Implement data quality checks and monitoring mechanisms to ensure data integrity and reliability throughout the processing lifecycle Continuously optimize and fine-tune Azure-based data processing workflows based on metadata-driven insights and performance metrics, aiming to improve throughput, latency, and overall efficiency of the data processing infrastructure Stay updated with the latest data engineering tools and technologies and evaluate their suitability for the organization's needs
About You
Bachelor’s degree in computer science / computer engineering / information technology or business-technology related discipline OR equivalent experience Min. 3-5 years of professional experience in IT and / or IT Consulting Embraces DevOps principles using tools like Azure DevOps or Gitlab CI/CD Experienced in Python, Bash/Linux, R, SQL Familiar with modern data storage solutions (e.g. object storage, parquet, delta lake) A reliable team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Bonus points:Understanding of Linux and networking requirements in AzureExperience in a scientific or QA environmentExperience in containerization and container orchestrationSpeak German or FinnishHave a sense of humourHave a passion for learning Even if you don't meet 100% of the criteria above, we'd still love to hear from you.
