European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

For our Project Management Office (PMO) we are looking for a

Project Manager (f/m/d) in part-time (20 hours/week)

The position

The temporary extension of the PMO is needed to provide advice and support to the Management Board on the implementation of our “Strategy 2030” on different project matters. To mitigate the accrued workload during that time, the PMO team (2 people) needs the assistance and support from the successful candidate to work on the usual project managements tasks and take the lead on other operational projects. Tasks will include:

Support in writing change requests, project requests, progress reports, closing reports, etc. Prepare reports regarding projects and programs for the management board (e.g. PMO project overview), for the annual report and for supervising bodies like Administrative and Finance Committee & Council (e.g. R&D Project Progress Report) Manage projects in the company and establish "best practices" in this function Contribute to the organization and execution of project management trainings provided by the PMO In the medium term, participation in aspects of the implementation of our "Strategy 2030" is expected

Requirements

Solid professional experience in leading cross-functional project teams, preferably in a scientific or engineering environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Passion to learn themselves as well as to teach and coach others Ability to work in and lead teams in a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary working environment, with English as the working language Knowledge of German language is considered a very useful asset An academic degree is considered an asset Experience in agile methods (like Scrum or Kanban) or change management is considered an asset Experience in budget management / controlling is considered an asset
