Looking for a senior, part-time geometry kernel expert (Open CASCADE, Python)
I coordinate software development for a German custom furniture manufacturer that sells online through its own configurators. We are building our own headless geometry service in Python. It turns configured furniture into exact solids with drilling, grooves and cutouts, then into machine-ready production data.
What we already have:
• A development team with solid Python and backend experience, including high-load systems and business software
• A configurator in production with WebGL visualisation in the browser
• In-house production experts who know every panel, connector and machining rule
• An architecture and decision basis for the service What we are missing is hands-on experience with a geometry kernel. That is where you come in. What you would do:
• Review the architecture: what our own Python domain library solves and what goes through the kernel
• Build reference implementations of two parametric part templates (panel with drilling, grooves, cutouts)
• Set patterns for Boolean operations, tolerances, determinism and tessellation for WebGL
• Do code reviews at the geometrically critical points and get the team past the entry barrier What you need:
• Senior level: several years of Open CASCADE in production, not just tried out, ideally across more than one project
• Python bindings: pythonocc-core, CadQuery or build123d
• Experience with Boolean operations, tolerances and degenerate cases
• Tessellation and handover to web 3D
• Headless, stateless services with deterministic output
• An AI-first way of working, and a clear view on where you check AI output
• English Nice to have: hidden line removal and 2D projection, panel processing or woodworking CAM formats (HOP, MPR). Furniture know-how is not required. We have that part covered. Not a fit: CAD users without kernel programming, Blender or game-engine profiles, C#/.
NET without Python. Scope: a limited engagement of about 5 to 10 days spread over 6 to 8 weeks, remote. Selection includes a half-day paid trial task on a real panel-and-drilling problem. Interested, or know someone who fits? Send me a message here or write to alex@mathera.tech with one project where you used OCCT in production.
