Postdoc (f/m/d) on Ferroelectric Ultra-Scaled Devices for Topotronic
Reference No.: QM 2026/5
At HZB’s IFOX Institute, we investigate functional oxide thin films and nanostructures in combination with semiconductors for energy-efficient information technologies. Our research focuses on materials synthesis, high-resolution structural characterization, and the development of devices for neuromorphic computing. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on the ERC Advanced Grant project LUCIOLE (Layering, Understanding, Controlling, Integrating Ferroelectric Polar Textures on Silicon). You will develop 2
- and 3-terminal devices incorporating ferroelectric polar textures in the sub-100 nm range and investigate their electrical behavior as well as the controlled manipulation of polar textures using electric fields. Using AI-based methods, you will analyze large datasets from thousands of devices at the wafer scale to identify characteristic behavioral patterns. Your Tasks
• Fabrication of ferroelectric devices (2
- and 3-terminal devices) and scaling down to sub-100 nm dimensions using e-beam lithography
• Detailed electrical characterization of ferroelectric devices
• Investigation of signatures of polar textures in devices
• Investigation of the manipulation of polar textures by electric fields or optical means
• Use of AI-based approaches to analyze large numbers of devices
• Presentation of research results at international conferences and publication in scientific journals
• Supervision of an engineer developing e-beam lithography and etching processes
• Supervision of Master's students
Your Profile
• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Extensive experience with electrical measurements
• Extensive experience with semiconductor devices
• Extensive experience in device fabrication and cleanroom environments
• Proficiency in Python
• Knowledge of AI-based approaches for large-scale data analysis is an advantage
• English proficiency at C1 level
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills Your BenefitsAt Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, you benefit from state-of-the-art research infrastructure, an international and collaborative working environment, and a wide range of opportunities for your professional development:
• The opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
• Flexible
working hours
and the possibility to work remotely
• Career-enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Centre and Postdoc Office
• 30 days of vacation per year and attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus company pension plan
• Advisory services on family and career matters through our Office for Work & Life
• Subsidy for public transport “Deutschlandticket Job” and exclusive employee discounts
• Relocation support from non-EU countries
• German and English courses for all proficiency levels ContactFixed term contract for 32 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
