Within Mission Critical Facilities, the organisation works with major data centre operators and industry players worldwide to deliver reliable, profitable, innovative and sustainable data centre investments. R-inhouse Recruitment is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to strengthen the team. You will primarily work on German data centre projects and lead complex multidisciplinary assignments for demanding international clients. This is a senior client-facing position combining project leadership, commercial awareness, stakeholder management and multidisciplinary design and engineering expertise. You will act as a key point of contact for the client and lead projects from initiation through delivery.
Your role
As Senior Project Manager, you will manage large-scale projects in a multi-stakeholder environment throughout the complete project lifecycle. You will support multinational clients in making the best value decisions while leading multidisciplinary teams and ensuring successful project delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and leading large-scale projects throughout the complete project lifecycle;
- Supporting multinational clients in making the best value decisions;
- Developing, leading and managing project teams during project development and delivery;
- Initiating projects together with clients and coordinating stakeholder input;
- Analysing and appraising production solutions;
- Preparing project briefs and business cases and obtaining the necessary approvals within the client's organisation;
- Acting as the client's key point of contact and ensuring seamless communication between stakeholders;
- Being responsible for project controls, including planning, cost control, project administration and contract management;
- Monitoring project progress, identifying potential risks and issues and developing mitigation strategies;
- Coordinating project resources, including internal team members, external vendors and subcontractors;
- Leading projects with short lead times;
- Operating in an international context and being prepared for short-, medium- and long-term travel;
- Working mainly on German projects, where knowledge and/or experience of the German market is preferable.
You will work closely with specialists across electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil and structural engineering, building services, architecture, fire safety, controls, security technology and construction.
The projects
You will work on Mission Critical Facilities projects, primarily complex data centre projects for leading operators, colocation providers, internet service providers and telecom companies. These projects require a level of project management expertise beyond conventional building projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams through technically complex projects where reliability, resilience, operational continuity, safety, sustainability and commercial performance are critical. The team provides strategic, tactical and operational consultancy services and develops integrated solutions by combining expertise across multiple technical disciplines.
What you bring
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, results-driven and proactive Senior Project Manager with a positive, flexible and problem-solving attitude.
You have:
- A technical university background in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering;
- More than 6 years of experience managing multidisciplinary design, engineering and construction projects, preferably within data centres or other relevant sectors;
- A strong track record managing medium- to large-scale projects;
- Experience working in a multi-stakeholder and international environment;
- Strong commercial and business acumen, with the ability to identify profitability and revenue opportunities;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- The ability to build and maintain trusted-advisor relationships at director level with clients;
- Experience mentoring and coaching other staff;
- Affinity with digital and automated design and engineering processes, including BIM360 and CDE;
- Excellent knowledge of English and German;
- A global mindset and willingness to undertake short-, medium- and long-term assignments;
- Awareness of international standards and a strong commitment to health, safety and sustainability;
- Previous employment with a design and engineering company is an advantage.
Professional project management qualifications and certifications such as IPMA or PRINCE are desirable.
