Process Engineer (m/w/d)Location: Schwarzheide, GermanyDepartment: Process Engineering Reports to: Site ManagerRole Type: On-siteRole SummaryThe Process Engineer will provide technical expertise to support, stabilize, and optimize production processes at the Schwarzheide site. The position focuses on plant performance, process reliability, safety compliance, and continuous improvement. This is a fully site-based role working closely with operations, maintenance, safety, and quality teams to ensure efficient and safe plant operation.Key ResponsibilitiesProcess Engineering & Plant SupportProvide day-to-day technical support to production units within the Schwarzheide site.Investigate process deviations, identify root causes, and develop corrective and preventive actions.Prepare, maintain, and optimize process engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, operating instructions, mass/energy balances).Support troubleshooting during start-up, shutdown, and operational disturbances.Process Optimization & Continuous ImprovementAnalyze process performance and implement improvements related to throughput, yield, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.Drive optimization initiatives in water treatment, thermal processes, solvent processing, waste streams, and energy utilization.Support implementation of new technologies and process upgrades at site level.Project Engineering (Site-Based)Contribute to site capital projects from concept through commissioning.Support preparation of technical specifications for equipment and modifications.Collaborate with site engineering, maintenance, automation, and contractors to deliver safe and compliant project execution.Safety, Compliance & Risk ManagementLead and participate in site HAZOPs, ATEX assessments, process safety reviews, and SIL evaluations.Ensure all process changes follow the site's Management of Change (MoC) procedures.Prepare technical documentation required for CE marking, ATEX compliance, and environmental permitting.Support incident investigations and implement process safety improvements.QualificationsEducationMaster's degree in Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related engineering field.Additional training in project management or system dynamics is an advantage.ExperienceProven experience in process engineering within the chemical, environmental, or energy sectors.Strong background in process design, troubleshooting, and risk assessment.Experience with thermal processes, industrial water treatment, pyrolysis, waste treatment, or similar technologies is beneficial for the site.Demonstrated involvement in site projects, commissioning, or operational support.Technical SkillsStrong proficiency in process simulation and engineering tools: Aspen Plus, ProSim Plus, HYSYS OLI.Competent in Autodesk Plant 3D, Inventor, SolidWorks, Autocad.High proficiency in Excel, MS Project, and Visio.Ability to interpret drawings, engineering documents, and process data accurately.LanguagesEnglish: Professional proficiencyGerman: FluentCore CompetenciesStrong problem-solving skills and structured technical thinkingHigh ownership, accountability, and self-managementEffective communication with operators, supervisors, and cross-functional teamsStrong focus on safety, compliance, and process disciplineAbility to work proactively and deliver results in a plant environmentWhat will you do?
