Videographer – German Mini Documentary

This role offers an opportunity for a skilled videographer fluent in German to craft a heartfelt 20-minute mini documentary capturing the life stories of two individuals celebrating milestone birthdays. The project involves planning, filming, and editing a documentary that weaves together interviews with family, friends, and colleagues, as well as evocative footage of childhood neighborhoods in and around Berlin and Frankfurt Oder. The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling, a sensitive approach to personal narratives, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively on-site in Germany. This is a unique chance to create a meaningful, emotionally resonant film that will be cherished for years to come.
Deliverables
- Develop a creative concept and shooting plan for the mini documentary
- Conduct and film interviews with the subjects, their family members, friends, and colleagues
- Capture b-roll footage in relevant locations, including childhood neighborhoods
- Edit and assemble a cohesive 20-minute documentary, ensuring high production values and emotional impact
- Manage all aspects of video production, including lighting, sound, and post-production
- Deliver the final film in a high-quality digital format suitable for sharing and archiving
Requirements
- Proven experience in documentary filmmaking, including planning, shooting, and editing
- Native or fluent German language skills (spoken and written)
- Strong storytelling abilities and sensitivity to personal, emotional subject matter
- Proficiency with professional video equipment and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro)
- Ability to travel and work on-site in Germany, primarily in Berlin and Frankfurt Oder, with some flexibility for hybrid work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for conducting interviews and working with non-professional subjects
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a project from concept to completion
