Role Description

The Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT infrastructure systems to ensure stability, scalability, and security. This role involves overseeing system architecture, troubleshooting technical issues, and leading projects that support business objectives. The Senior System Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, mentors junior engineers, and plays a key role in optimizing system performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise-level systems and networks, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Lead system integration, configuration, and migration projects across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Analyze system requirements, develop technical specifications, and recommend optimal solutions.
  • Implement and maintain server, storage, and virtualization infrastructures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Ensure system security through access controls, patch management, and regular audits.
  • Monitor performance metrics and perform capacity planning to anticipate future needs.
  • Automate system tasks and workflows using scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Document system configurations, architectures, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to ensure smooth system integration.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and IT staff.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies to recommend improvements and innovation opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure management, or IT operations.
  • Deep knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, macOS) and enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency with virtualization and container technologies (VMware, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, firewalls, load balancers).
  • Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins) and CI/CD environments.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or similar).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities for cross-team collaboration.
  • English proficiency required; Japanese skills are a plus for Japan-based roles.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or CompTIA Server+ are advantageous.
