We, Nanion Technologies GmbH (

) are a young, growing technology company in Munich. We develop, manufacture and distribute measurement robots that are used worldwide in the life science industry and in research. As our company continues to grow, the demands on our software quality are also increasing. To meet these demands, we are looking to further professionalize our testing and quality assurance and are seeking an experienced professional to shape and drive this area.

The Opportunity:

This is not a role where you'll be handed a neatly packaged process to manage. You will set standards, bring structure to existing workflows, and make quality an integral part of development. You'll set the foundation for testing practices, mentor developers on how to contribute effectively to quality, and establish realistic standards we can stick to. This is a role with significant freedom and impact, offering the opportunity to design processes from the ground up and establish sustainable practices.

What you'll do:

  • Take ownership of quality assurance across the company's software products.
  • Assess the current state of testing, identify gaps, and prioritize what to improve first.
  • Design a scalable testing strategy that fits our size and resources—balancing automation, manual testing, and pragmatic checks.
  • Put basic but reliable processes in place (test plans, reporting, environments, release readiness criteria).
  • Work closely with product managers, developers, and leadership to make testing an integrated part of development.
  • Train and lead other testers as needed, while also being hands-on yourself when required.
  • Be a champion for quality—but flexible enough to know when "perfect testing" is not realistic.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience setting up or transforming software testing in a small, fast-moving environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and imperfect documentation.
  • Strong understanding of both manual testing practices and test automation strategies, and when to use which.
  • Good communication skills—you'll often be the one asking uncomfortable questions like "Is this really ready to ship?" and you'll need to do it constructively.
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset: you know that in a small company, "good enough but consistent" testing is better than "perfect but never implemented."
  • Leadership experience (formal or informal)—you'll help others change habits and attitudes toward quality.
