Your Role

As a Backend Engineer, you'll architect and scale the backend systems that power Lextract's AI-driven due diligence platform. You'll work cross-functionally with product, ML, and legal domain experts to turn complex workflows into reliable, elegant systems. While this role focuses mainly on backend, we value we welcome engineers who can also contribute across the stack or are eager to level up their frontend skills.

Core Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable APIs and microservices for document analysis, report generation and registry integrations.
• Implement event-driven architectures to support AI agents, multi-module workflows, and RAG pipelines.
• Optimize data processing pipelines for speed, accuracy, and security.
• Own CI/CD and deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Collaborate across disciplines — from ML engineers to legal product leads — to deliver production-grade solutions.
• Ensure security and compliance through SSDLC practices (OWASP, SAST/DAST, RBAC).
• Continuously improve system observability, performance, and reliability through root-cause analysis and telemetry.

What You'll Bring

Essential

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python or TypeScript, including API design (FastAPI, Express) and OOP best practices.
• Experience with RESTful and GraphQL APIs, SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB), and message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).
• Deep understanding of secure cloud architectures (Azure or GCP preferred).
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong grasp of testing, CI/CD, and monitoring practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a distributed setup.

Nice to Have

• Experience with LLM pipelines, (Graph)RAG architectures, Agent framework / playbooks, or vector databases.
• Familiarity with legal tech, document processing, or knowledge graph systems.
• Contributions to open-source or internal developer platforms.
• Exposure to ISO 27001, GDPR, or Zero Trust environments.
