About the Position: Serves as the Lead Medical Instrument Technician assisting the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Center of the Pulmonary Sleep Medicine Service.

Duties
  • Assist the Medical Directors with the organization and delivery of sleep lab related services, coordinating lab personnel duties with sleep laboratory studies and procedures.
  • Oversee the day-to-day technical operation of the Sleep Laboratory and Clinic.
  • Follow procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), oxygen titration etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Perform as the technical authority on electroencephalography and evoked potential technology principles, concepts and methods pertaining to neurology disorders.
  • Perform and oversee timely and accurate scoring of all sleep studies.
  • Perform accurate statistical analysis to generate schedules and reports using a database.
  • As Team Leader, ensure that the work assignments of the other employees of the team are accomplished.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes conducting polysomnography tests to diagnose sleep disorders and operating equipment used in polysomnography procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
