Role Description

The Fashion Product Design Assistant supports the design and development process of apparel and accessories collections from concept to production. Working closely with designers, merchandisers, and production teams, this role assists in creating trend-driven, innovative, and commercially viable fashion products. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about fashion, with a strong sense of aesthetics and technical understanding of garment construction and materials. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in the creative and operational sides of the fashion industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design team in developing seasonal collections, from concept creation to final product samples.
  • Conduct market research, trend analysis, and competitor reviews to inform design direction.
  • Assist in preparing mood boards, color palettes, fabric swatches, and technical drawings.
  • Create and update design sketches using CAD software such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Coordinate with material suppliers, factories, and production teams for sample development and approvals.
  • Organize and maintain design archives, fabric libraries, and sample collections.
  • Prepare detailed technical specification sheets and assist in fitting sessions to ensure design accuracy.
  • Track sample progress, communicate with vendors, and monitor timelines to meet production schedules.
  • Assist in quality control checks of samples and finished products.
  • Support photo shoots, presentations, and product launches as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with merchandising, marketing, and production departments to align design concepts with brand identity and commercial goals.
  • Contribute creative ideas during brainstorming sessions and team meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in fashion design, product development, or related roles (internships acceptable for entry-level).
  • Strong design and illustration skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and fabric types.
  • Excellent trend awareness and creative eye for color, silhouette, and detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle, from concept to production, is an advantage.
  • Passion for fashion, innovation, and continuous learning.
