motus med

is a digital health startup centered around an AI-powered medical video platform. Our first product is an effective tool for diagnosis and monitoring in epilepsy. Our work builds on many years of research and clinical experience within the Computational Neurology Lab (Prof. Dr. Christian Meisel) at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

We are currently spinning out of Charité and accelerating our go-to-market, backed by clinical teams, validated through studies and early pilots, run by an experienced founding team and supported by high-profile medical, AI, and regulatory advisors.

We are now looking for a Founding Engineer to take ownership of our core product and shape the next stage of development.

Your role

As our Founding Engineer, you will own the backend, infrastructure and product development across the stack - from databases and APIs up to the React UI.

You will:

  • Own and evolve our Kotlin backend (APIs, services, data models, integrations)
  • Design and operate our infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, cloud/OVH, monitoring, alerting, incident response)
  • Improve and ship our camera integration for epilepsy monitoring (including Python-based components and integrations)
  • Integrate AI pipelines from our ML engineering into robust production services
  • Build and review React features for our clinician portal and internal tools
  • Work with React Native and extend our mobile app where needed
  • Set up and maintain CI/CD, automated tests, and release processes
  • Grow into Head of Engineering / CTO if you want it - and if you deliver

This is a true founder-track role - you are the person who can both keep the system up and ship new end-to-end features.

Your profile

You do not need to tick every box - we care more about pace, ownership, and mindset. You likely have:

  • Strong experience in Kotlin or Java and are ready to go all-in on Kotlin
  • 5+ years building and operating backend systems in production
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud, monitoring and alerting
  • Solid grasp of databases, API design, authentication and security basics
  • Proven experience building production UIs in React
  • A track record of shipping full-stack features (frontend, backend & deployment)
  • Ideally some exposure to React Native, or strong willingness to work with mobile
  • A strong bias to action - you take responsibility, not tickets
  • Willingness to work onsite 5 days/week in Berlin
  • Excellent English; German is a plus
  • An AI-first workflow (Cursor, Copilot, GPT agents, etc.)
