About us

PCR innovation has stagnated - that's where MillionMolecules steps in to drive progress. What began as a research project at the Hahn-Schickard Institute and the University of Freiburg has evolved into an EXIST-funded startup. Our interdisciplinary team combines expertise in microfluidics, biotechnology, economics and a healthy dose of humor. Whether it's advancing cancer diagnostics, preparing for the next pandemic, or simply pursuing our passion for innovation, we are developing a next-generation digital PCR (dPCR) system that enables the precise quantification of millions of molecules.

Your tasks

• Independent development of an automated lab instrument, including:
• • high-precision temperature control
    
    micro-mechanical motorized axis
• an optical fluorescence microscopy unit
• smart image-processing algorithms
• a user-friendly graphical interface
• Iterative conceptualization, rapid prototyping, programming and testing of the system
• Close collaboration with team members on microfluidic and biological experiments

The position is initially limited to 18 months, with the opportunity to become a Co-Founder.

Your profile

• M.Sc. in a STEM field (Micro-/Embedded Systems, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related)
• Experience with CAD, programming (Python, C/C++), and version control (Git)
• Industry experience and/or a PhD in a relevant field (engineering, programming, optics) is an advantage
• Interest in interdisciplinary work and applications in micro- & biotechnology
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Proactive ownership of projects and a highly independent working style
• Willingness to acquire new skills as needed
• Hands-on mindset with a passion for experiments
• Attention to detail, strong documentation practices
• Fluency in English; German is an asset
