Are you passionate about data science, versatile in your skillset and eager to unlock value from data together with your team? Then we're looking for you As the Manager Data Science at Sasol, you will drive the digital transformation initiatives for Sasol's International Chemicals business originating from all functional areas. You will guide your team to build advanced data models, develop tools that enhance decision-making processes, and automate workflows for our colleagues and customers in Agile project setups.

Your responsibilities

• Team Leadership: You will be responsible to lead a core team of motivated data scientists in the design, development, and implementation of advanced, data-driven solutions. You will manage collaboration with temporary resources such as contractors as well as graduate talents, interns or students on research projects and foster a positive work environment.
• Strategic Project Management: You engage across managerial levels to drive data science initiatives that enhance business performance, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
• Expertise: You will promote best practices, methodologies, and innovative approaches, utilize the latest methods and technological trends, and contribute your in-depth expertise.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: You will work across departments, align solutions with strategic business objectives, and support digital transformation and change management throughout the company.
• Mentoring & Development: You foster innovation, knowledge sharing, and the continuous development of your team.
• Data Governance & Quality: You ensure data integrity and quality through effective governance and control measures.
• Communication & Influence: You translate complex issues into clear and understandable language for all stakeholders and influence strategic decisions within the company through data-driven insights.
• Supplier Management: You manage external service providers and ensure the best possible project outcomes.
• Infrastructure Development: Together with IT and other departments, you drive the implementation of a scalable and future-proof data infrastructure.

Your Profile

• Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience
• In-depth knowledge of statistics, mathematics, machine learning, DevOps principles, and MVC-based development (Django, React, Python, SQL)
• Experience in application deployment and hosting (Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure)
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a proven track record of successful team leadership at various organizational levels
• Proven track record of successfully implementing data science projects within corporate structures
• Innovative mindset, solution-oriented thinking, and the ability to flexibly manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Fluent English skills
• Industry knowledge (e.g., in chemistry) is advantageous but not required
