Your working environment
As an
Intern in Surface Science and Forensics
within D&E Berlin you'll help ASML to solve some of the most complex challenges in the semiconductor industry. You'll work on the most important components of the wafer stage and contribute to the performance of the scanner. With your help, we can ensure that our chipmaking systems work as they should. We are a team of experts in surface science, tribology and forensic analysis. We apply our skills and knowledge to enable ASML Berlin product roadmaps and support the wafer clamping function. We correlate surface properties at the nanoscale with wafer clamping performance, wear and lifetime. We help close the loop between factory and field by performing root cause analysis of clamps, wafer tables, and stage components.

Your tasks
As an
Intern in Surface Science and Forensics
you will:

  • Support the development of materials characterization processes and techniques to determine failure mechanisms of critical components.
  • Execute tests and perform complex data analysis tasks under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Conduct hands-on measurements and coordinate a variety of metrology techniques (SEM-EDX, AFM, WLI, flatness measurement, etc.).
  • Develop scripts for data analysis.
  • Assist the team in executing routine materials qualification tasks.

Your qualification and competence

  • You hold an M.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field of study, with expertise in materials characterization, metrology, and surface science.
  • You have experience with materials and surface characterization techniques (AFM, SEM-EDX, WLI, tribometry, etc.).
  • You have experience with software that supports data analysis (Matlab, Python).
  • You have experience working in a cleanroom and previous experience at ASML as a working student or intern is considered an asset.
  • You have experience developing and maintaining test rigs and characterization setups, which is considered a plus.
  • You have excellent English and German language skills (verbal and written).
  • You are a highly motivated and committed team player with excellent social, coordination and communication skills.
  • You are open to learning techniques outside of the above-mentioned fields in the future.
  • You have an inquisitive and can-do mentality..
