Senior Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Engineer to join our innovative confidential computing research team. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the development of confidential and secure AI agents. These agents are designed to operate in high-stakes environments where data privacy, security, and ethical considerations are paramount. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to research, prototype, and implement cutting-edge solutions that enable AI systems to process sensitive information without compromising confidentiality. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of secure AI technologies.

Senior Research Engineer - Confidential Secure AI Agents  (m/f/d)

Your mission

• Lead research initiatives focused on designing and building secure AI agents capable of handling confidential data using techniques such as homomorphic encryption, secure multi-party computation, federated learning, and differential privacy.
• Develop prototypes and production-ready implementations of AI models that ensure end-to-end security, including threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and stakeholders to integrate secure AI agents into broader systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Conduct experiments, analyze results, and publish findings in top-tier conferences or journals to contribute to the field of secure AI.
• Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance on best practices for secure AI development.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends in AI security, cryptography, and privacy-preserving technologies, and apply them to ongoing projects.
• Evaluate and optimize the performance, scalability, and robustness of secure AI agents in real-world scenarios using Huawei Cloud.

Your areas of expertise

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, with a focus on AI, machine learning, cryptography, or security.
• Strong experience in research and engineering roles, preferably in AI/ML with an emphasis on security and privacy.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or Rust, and familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Proven track record of working on secure systems, including experience with cryptographic protocols, secure enclaves (e.g., Intel SGX/TDX, AMD SEV SNP, ARM TrustZone), or privacy-enhancing technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, evidenced by publications, patents, or contributions to open-source projects in relevant areas.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle complex, ambiguous challenges in secure AI.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in developing AI agents for confidential computing environments, such as cloud-based secure platforms (e.g., AWS Nitro Enclaves, Azure Confidential Computing).
• Knowledge of adversarial machine learning, robustness against attacks, and ethical AI considerations.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for data privacy and security in AI applications.
• Prior experience in a senior or lead role within a research-oriented organization or startup focused on AI technologies.
