In this foundational role, you'll be the driving force behind Akaysha's Battery Energy Storage projects in Germany, leading the full project lifecycle from development to commissioning and handover to operations. As one of the first team members on the ground, you'll play a key part in shaping our presence in the region, ensuring all projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while meeting all German planning, permitting, and construction standards.

You'll bring hands-on project management expertise and proven ability to coordinate complex EPC and grid-connected infrastructure projects at transmission level kV). Collaborating closely with local and global colleagues, you'll bring together cross-functional expertise to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes. Whether you're coordinating multidisciplinary teams, navigating local regulatory requirements, or engaging with critical stakeholders, your leadership will be central to executing Akaysha's strategic vision for utility-scale BESS projects in Germany. 

Expect to be hands-on throughout the project lifecycle, from technical planning and procurement to on-site construction, commissioning, and energisation. What you'll be doing: 

• Project Delivery & Compliance: Lead the end-to-end delivery of utility-scale BESS projects, managing design, procurement, construction and commissioning activities. Oversee on-site works, including civil, electrical and grid connection at transmission level, ensuring interface between EPCs, OEMs, and TSOs are effectively managed. Control project cost, schedule, quality, and WHSE performance using established frameworks. Ensure full compliance with German planning, permitting, and construction/technical standards, and prepare clear progress reports for internal and external stakeholders. Facilitate seamless project transitions from development through to operations. 
• Commercial & Contract Management: Support contract negotiations and tendering processes for EPC, OEM and grid connection contracts. Manage contractor agreements, monitor contractual performance, and address variations and claims to secure favourable commercial outcomes for the business.  Oversee procurement of long-lead items and interface management between suppliers and contractors. 
• WHSE & Risk Management: Foster a proactive safety culture by conducting regular risk assessments, leading workshops in failure mode analysis and root cause investigation, and ensuring strict adherence to WHSE standards and regulatory requirements. Evaluate design changes that impact safety, reliability, and performance. 
• People & Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary project teams, supporting recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing professional development. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture that drives project excellence and innovation. 
• Stakeholder Engagement & Continuous Improvement: Represent Akaysha Energy in engagements with regulatory authorities, network service providers, contractors, and key stakeholders. Manage relationships to facilitate project approvals and operational success. Capture lessons learned, improve technical templates and processes, and drive continuous improvement across project delivery practices. 

What you'll bring: 

Project Management 

• Proven EPC project management experience delivering utility-scale BESS, HV substations, or renewable energy infrastructure projects.
• Strong track record managing project scope, schedule, budget, and risk across all phases — from development to commissioning.
• Deep understanding of grid connection processes and HV interface works (110 – 380 kV).

Technical Knowledge – BESS and HV Substations 

• In-depth technical expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and High Voltage substations, including design, engineering, and integration. 
• Strong track record ensuring system performance, safety, and regulatory compliance with German and EU standards. 

Project Team Leadership 

• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure environments, driving collaboration and delivery across engineering, construction, and development functions. 
• Proven ability to build team capability, manage performance, and foster alignment to achieve project goals. 

Contract Management 

• Demonstrated experience managing EPC, OEM, and grid connection contracts, including resolving claims and/or variations to protect project outcomes
• Skilled in commercial governance, supplier negotiations, and procurement of long-lead and high-value packages.

Regulatory and Commercial Stakeholder Engagement 

• Established success engaging with government authorities, grid operators, landowners, and financial partners in complex regulatory environments. 
• Ability to navigate approval processes while maintaining trust, transparency, and strong relationships across all stakeholder groups.
