Your responsibilities

Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate's own academic work.

The main goal is to understand how antibiotics inhibit the ribosome and protein synthesis and how bacteria obtain resistance to these classes of ribosome-targeting antibiotics. To do this, the applicant will use biochemical approaches to form appropriate complexes between the antibiotics and the ribosome that can then be interrogated using structural biology approaches, such as single particle cryo-EM. In addition, ribosome complexes will be formed with protein factors that confer antibiotic resistance or using ribosomes that contain mutations or modifications that confer antibiotics resistance. These complexes will then also be analyzed single particle cryo-EM approaches. Teaching hours 2,6.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

Experience with biochemical and molecular biology methods such as PCR, cloning, protein expression, and protein purification.

Experience with ribosomes, RNA and/or structural biology approaches, especially single particle cryo-EM, would be an advantage.

The applicant will undergo training in sample preparation for cryo-EM as well as data collection and processing methodologies for single particle cryo-EM.
