Steel Structure Engineer

The Central Kitchen Project in Makkah represents one of the flagship developments, designed to serve large-scale catering and food production operations through advanced engineering systems and world-class construction standards.

Job Purpose:

To ensure the correct, safe, and high-quality fabrication and erection of the steel structure system for the Central Kitchen Project. The engineer will represent the client during both fabrication and site installation phases, ensuring full compliance with design intent, approved shop drawings, codes, and quality requirements.

• Responsibilities:

Technical Drawings & Design Coordination:

• Review and verify design drawings and shop drawings prior to fabrication to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with structural design requirements and project specifications.
• Coordinate with the design consultant, structural engineer, and fabricator to clarify discrepancies and ensure constructability.
• Review and confirm connection details, member sizes, welding symbols, and material specifications before production starts.

Fabrication Phase Supervision:

• Monitor and inspect all fabrication activities (cutting, welding, assembly, surface treatment) to ensure adherence to approved shop drawings and procedures.
• Verify welding processes, welder qualifications, and inspection reports in accordance with EN 1090 and AWS D1.1 standards.
• Conduct dimensional checks and ensure accuracy of bolt holes, connections, and member geometry.
• Review and approve Factory Production Control (FPC) documentation and non-conformance reports.

Erection & Installation Supervision:

• Supervise site erection activities ensuring accurate alignment, bolting, and welding of the structure as per erection drawings.
• Confirm that lifting, bracing, and temporary works follow proper safety and engineering procedures.
• Oversee all field adjustments and ensure they are documented and approved.

Quality Assurance & Reporting:

• Ensure compliance with quality control plans, inspection test plans (ITPs), and applicable codes (EN 1090, AWS D1.1, AISC).
• Document inspections, tests, and approvals at every stage.
• Provide daily and weekly progress and quality reports with photographic documentation.
• Issue and follow up on NCRs, Corrective Actions, and Closing Reports.

Safety & Coordination:

• Enforce HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) compliance during fabrication and erection.
• Coordinate between the fabricator, contractor, consultant, and project management team for technical alignment and issue resolution.
• Participate in pre-fabrication and pre-erection meetings to ensure readiness and quality compliance.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in steel structure projects involving Space Frame and Truss systems.
• Proven record as a Fabrication Inspector / QA-QC Engineer / Site Engineer for industrial or factory-scale steel projects (≥10,000 m²).
• Deep knowledge of EN 1090, AWS D1.1, and AISC codes and standards.
• Experience in European fabrication (Germany or Austria preferred).
• Strong understanding of Shop Drawing review, welding procedures, and material traceability.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills in English.
