Our client is a long-established international organisation operating within a modern, global matrix structure. The company is undergoing a planned leadership transition and is strengthening its internal functions in Germany.

Overview of the Job

They are recruiting a General Manager Finance & Business to lead all internal corporate functions in Germany, including Finance, Compliance, Facilities and organisational coordination. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational execution and plays a key part on the German management team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Finance, Compliance and Facilities functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, statutory audit and tax compliance.
  • Operate in a hands-on manner when necessary, supporting bookkeeping, operational tasks and day-to-day finance processes.
  • Collaborate closely with HR on workforce planning, employee development, labour law matters and HR processes, including participation in Works Council meetings.
  • Coordinate with Legal on contracts, insurance, governance and compliance requirements.
  • Manage local office operations, including facilities, occupational health & safety and administrative support teams.
  • Act as a key liaison to regional and global corporate functions (Finance, HR, Legal, IT), representing Germany in internal and external stakeholder interactions.
  • Promote process optimisation, efficiency and continuous improvement across internal functions.

Qualifications / Skills

  • University degree in Finance, Business Administration, Business Law or a related field.
  • Several years of senior experience in Finance or General Management, ideally with international exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting, tax, compliance and labour law topics relevant to Germany.
  • Proven experience leading teams and navigating co-determination environments, ideally with Works Council interaction.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills with a diplomatic, empathetic and collaborative approach.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic problem-solver with the ability to balance operational detail and strategic decision-making.
  • Fluent German and English, both written and spoken.
