A long-term cooperation is highly desired.

The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).

This is a part-time contract position.

The standard weekly hours will be 8 hours.

The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.

The position corresponds to a pay grade of 16,00 €.

We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant (f/m/d) at the earliest possible date to support a DFG funded research project on fiber-reinforced polymers (SFB TRR 402 "DediGrad"). The sub-project C07 explores computational techniques to reduce the need for full life-cycle assessments of every alternative within the phase of a product's design. The goal is to predict environmental impacts for product stages with limited data and to highlight promising design options with minimal computational effort (e.g., via machine learning or multi-objective optimization). The work is inherently interdisciplinary and combines materials knowledge, data engineering, and coding.

ANTS researches and develops methods to make anthropogenic material flows sustainable and circular. We link modeling and assessment of processing and recycling with technical implementation and demonstration.

• Bachelor`s degree + immatriculation in a consecutive course
• High motivation, reliability, and a structured, independent way of working.
• Strong programming skills (preferably Python; experience with version control via Git).
• Solid analytical skills and a careful approach to data quality and traceability.
• Availability to learn new topics and methods (e.g., eco-design, LCA, FRPC, data engineering).
• Flexibility in workload and tasks as project priorities evolve.
• Very good command of English (written and spoken).

• Curate, structure, and document datasets for fiber-reinforced polymers (materials, processes, end-of-life routes) from literature, databases, and industry sources.
• Implement data pipelines and scripts (e.g., Python) for data cleaning and analysis.
• Prototype algorithms and tools for decision support.
• Implement computational models and refine model constraints, ensuring stable and reproducible results.
• Support integration of data/algorithms into assessment workflows.
• Contribute to general project tasks (documentation, version control, meeting organization).
