The Applied Machine Learning (AML) group within the Artificial Intelligence Department is seeking a scientist in the field of Machine Learning to strengthen its research activities in the areas of foundation models, large language models, and multimodal ML models—particularly in the context of research and development of new solutions for applications in medicine and weather. The AML research group continuously explores and develops innovative solutions that are used in current and future key research topics. Creation of large datasets for AI developmentDevelopment of new machine learning methods, particularly in the field of multimodal machine learningDevelopment of foundation models, especially large language modelsOptimization of training processes within the scope of AI developmentWriting scientific publications and supervising studentsParticipation in exciting projects with external partners and clientsPresentation of results at trade fairs, project meetings, and other eventsWhat you contribute
Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related fieldExcellent programming skills in Python and extensive experience with common AI frameworks and librariesProven expertise (e.g., through projects or publications) in at least one of the following areas: Multimodal Machine Learning, Foundation Models, Large Language Models, or Reasoning ModelsEnthusiasm and enjoyment in (further) developing codebases and discovering new datasetsExperience and confidence in using Python, Linux (Ubuntu), and Git via the terminalAutonomy, independence, and self-initiativeTeam spirit and an interest in interdisciplinary collaborationWhat we offer
