Huawei's European Intellectual Property (IPR) Department is a fully-functional department responsible for all intellectual property matters of Huawei in Europe. It supports protection of cutting-edge technologies generated by Huawei's talented researchers in all Research and Development Centers in Europe, including patent portfolio management, patent prosecution, patent licensing, IP litigation, IP policy, and all other IP related matters. The European IPR Department is mainly located in Munich, Germany, and it comprises an international and diverse team of attorneys-at-law, patent attorneys, patent engineers, and paralegals.
We offer a position in our European IPR Department as an
IP Counsel (m/f/d)
Your main Responsibilities:
- Supporting the protection of Huawei's valuable technical inventions in Europe by developing and implementing patent prosecution, licensing, and litigation strategies.
- Supporting Huawei's efforts in licensing its patents, in particular its standard-essential patents (SEPs), by identifying potential licensees, drafting license agreements, and conducting licensing negotiations.
- Supporting Huawei's intellectual property litigation campaigns in Europe, specifically before the Unified Patent Court (UPC), German Courts, and the UK Courts; coordination with parallel litigation campaigns e.g. in China; hand-in-hand cooperation with Huawei's in-house engineers and with Huawei's outside litigation counsels and law firms.
- Representing Huawei's interests and standpoints vis-à-vis other stakeholders, e.g. in the context of international or regional conferences or workshops.
- Helping to build up a strong patent portfolio by reviewing and evaluating patent applications, by selecting granted patents for litigation, and by supporting to defend Huawei's patents against nullity attacks.
- Providing the legal and IP support to various industrial activities in Europe, including standard setting organizations, open source, associations etc.
What you can offer us:
- Law degree (1stState Examination, Diploma, Master, or Bachelor), at best with a focus on European IP law;
- Admission as an Attorney-at-Law (Rechtsanwalt) in an EU member state or UK;
- Solid technical and commercial interest and understanding, specifically regarding information, communication and telecommunication technologies and related patents;
- At least 2 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm or as an in-house legal counsel, both in Europe;
- At best, experience in multi-jurisdictional patent litigation and licensing projects, specifically regarding standard essential patents (SEPs) and FRAND related matters;
- English C1 level; preferably, German C1 level in addition; excellent communication skills both in writing and speaking as well as ability to present legal, commercial and technical arguments in a convincing manner;
- Readiness to travel internationally from time to time; intercultural understanding.
- Open-minded with the ability to collaborate and being keen to be challenged in a fast-paced commercial environment within a multinational team;
- Collaborative and responsible team-player mentality and goal-oriented forward thinking and acting;
