The Role
Black Semiconductor is seeking a Photonic Component Designer(f/m/d) to create broadband passive devices that enable high-performance I/O coupling and polarization management as well as high-speed active components. In this role, you will design, simulate, and optimize fabrication-tolerant devices, develop test structures, and deliver PDK-ready building blocks while applying best practices in design-for-test and design-for-functionality

Your Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related fieldExpertise in integrated photonics device physics and modeling Proven skills in design, simulation, verification, and optimization of fabrication-tolerant, low-loss, and broadband passive components (ideally grating couplers, edge couplers, and polarization management devicesExperience in design, simulation, verification, and optimization of active componentsBackground in integrated photonics platforms (ideally SiN)Proficiency with Lumerical tools (Mode, FDTD, Multiphysics)Programming skills in Python and familiarity with GitExperience with layout tools (gdsfactory, Nazca, OptoDesigner)Hands-on experience in test structure development and design for testing (DFT)Knowledge of optical link simulation is nice to havePhotonic lab characterization experience is nice to haveUnderstanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) is a plusExperience with PDK building block development (compact model creation, p-cells, etc.) is nice to have
