Overview

A rapidly scaling renewable energy company specialising in solar projects is seeking a highly capable
Head of Finance
to lead and professionalise its finance function. This individual will play a pivotal role in enabling the company's next phase of growth, overseeing financial operations, guiding strategic decision-making, and supporting project development across multiple geographies.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical finance skills, experience within the renewable energy or infrastructure sectors, and a hands-on approach suited to a dynamic scale-up environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Business Partnering

  • Act as a strategic finance partner to the CEO, CFO, and senior leadership team.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, and performance management.
  • Provide financial insight for project selection, development, and portfolio optimisation.
  • Prepare investor materials, board reports, and commercial analyses to support strategic decisions.

Project Finance & Capital Structuring

  • Support the structuring and execution of project financing arrangements (senior debt, mezzanine, equity).
  • Build financial models for utility-scale and distributed solar projects.
  • Engage with lenders, financial institutions, and investors on financing terms and due diligence.
  • Assess project economics, capital efficiency, and return profiles.

Financial Operations & Controls

  • Oversee all day-to-day finance activities, including accounting, tax, treasury, audit, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement a robust financial control environment across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Enhance financial systems and processes to support operational scaling.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, financial, and environmental reporting standards.

Commercial & Operational Support

  • Partner with development, engineering, procurement, and operations teams to evaluate business cases and cost structures.
  • Support PPA negotiations, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and supplier relationships from a financial perspective.
  • Identify opportunities for margin improvement, cost optimisation, and working capital efficiency.

Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision making.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Skills

  • 8–15 years of experience in finance, ideally within renewable energy, infrastructure, project finance, or energy services.
  • Strong experience with project finance structures, financial modelling, and investment analysis.
  • Hands-on financial operations expertise (accounting, reporting, controls).
  • Experience working in a scaling or international environment is a strong plus.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including interaction with lenders, investors, and technical teams.
  • Strong communication, analytical thinking, and commercial acumen.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; advanced degree or professional qualification (CPA, CFA, ACA, ACCA) preferred.
