Junior Security Engineer - Role Overview

The
Junior Security Engineer
is an entry-level position within the cybersecurity field, responsible for assisting in protecting an organization's systems, networks, and data from security threats. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity by working alongside more experienced security engineers to monitor, assess, and improve the company's security posture. Junior Security Engineers help maintain and implement security measures to defend against data breaches, hacking attempts, malware, and other cybersecurity risks.

As a Junior Security Engineer, you'll work with a variety of security tools and technologies to help secure an organization's IT infrastructure. Your role will include tasks such as monitoring security systems, performing vulnerability assessments, analyzing security incidents, and applying best practices for maintaining secure environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Security Monitoring & Incident Response:

  2. Monitor network traffic, system logs, and security events using security tools like
    SIEM
    (Security Information and Event Management) systems to detect potential threats and anomalies.

  3. Assist in identifying, analyzing, and responding to security incidents, including data breaches, malware infections, and unauthorized access attempts.
  4. Collaborate with senior security engineers to help mitigate and resolve security incidents, ensuring minimal impact on the organization's systems and data.

  5. Vulnerability Assessment & Remediation:

  6. Conduct regular vulnerability scans using tools like
    Nessus

    OpenVAS

    to identify potential security weaknesses in systems and networks.

  7. Help with patch management, ensuring that security updates and patches are applied to servers, network devices, and software in a timely manner.
  8. Assist in performing penetration testing on internal systems to identify vulnerabilities and provide recommendations for remediation.

  10. Assist in configuring and maintaining security tools, such as
    firewalls

  14. Support the security team in identifying and analyzing potential risks to the organization's systems, networks, and data.

  15. Assist in performing risk assessments and help develop strategies to mitigate security risks, including the application of security best practices, hardening systems, and securing endpoints.
  16. Help maintain the organization's security posture by identifying areas where security measures can be improved.

  17. Security Documentation & Reporting:

  18. Assist in maintaining and updating security documentation, including incident reports, risk assessments, security policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  19. Generate reports on security activities, including findings from vulnerability assessments, incidents, and security monitoring.
  20. Document and track security issues, vulnerabilities, and incidents for analysis and reporting to management and other teams.

  21. Collaboration & Education:

  22. Work closely with other IT teams, such as network administrators and system administrators, to ensure that security measures are integrated across the organization's infrastructure.

  23. Support the education and training of employees on security best practices, such as identifying phishing attacks, using strong passwords, and following secure data handling procedures.
  24. Stay updated on current security threats, trends, and technologies to help continuously improve security practices.

  25. Compliance & Security Best Practices:
