The offered postdoctoral position is part of the DFG-funded
project' Phi losophical Judgement Between Autonomy and Epistemic
Depen dence: Epistemological Foundations and Classroom Reality',
located at the Universities of Cologne and Mainz. The position is
affiliated to the Chair of Professor Thomas Grundmann. The project
seeks to fundamentally clarify the relationship between epistemic
autonomy and dependence within the context of philosophy edu-
cation at school.
YOUR TASKS
» The successful candidate will have an active research project on
the norms of judgement within the DFG project
» Strong collaboration with all members of the project
» Support for the organisation of events
» Preparation and regular attendence at team meetings and in-
house workshops or reading-groups
» International correspondence with collaborators
YOUR PROFILE
» The applicant must have a completed doctoral degree in philo-
sophy. ABD ("all but dissertation") candidates will be considered
» The applicant must be specialized in epistemology and in at
least one of the following areas: philosophy of language, philo-
sophy of science, or philosophy of mind
» The applicant's research focus is on at least one of the following
areas relevant to the project: norms of belief, assertion, inquiry,
reasoning; acceptance; theories of inference; epistemic autono-
my; epistemic dependence; theories of evidence; theories of
normativity and/or rationality
» The applicant can communicate fluently in German, both in
spoken and writing

The position is available from 1 March 2026 on a full-time basis

wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is
based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the
German public sector.
