Role Description

The Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT infrastructure systems that ensure optimal performance, security, and scalability. This role involves leading system architecture initiatives, troubleshooting advanced technical issues, and mentoring junior engineers. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Senior System Engineer ensures that all systems align with organizational goals, business continuity requirements, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capability to deliver robust, high-availability systems in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise-level IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networks, and virtualization environments.
  • Implement and maintain system configurations, ensuring performance optimization, security compliance, and high availability.
  • Lead infrastructure projects, from planning and design to implementation and post-deployment support.
  • Analyze system performance metrics and proactively identify areas for improvement or risk mitigation.
  • Manage cloud and hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), including automation, monitoring, and cost optimization.
  • Administer and maintain operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, or UNIX) and associated enterprise applications.
  • Support DevOps and CI/CD pipelines by managing infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system architecture diagrams, procedures, and configurations.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with security standards and implement system hardening practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues, providing escalation support and root cause analysis.
  • Oversee backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in systems design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with vendors and third-party providers for hardware, software, and infrastructure support.
  • Participate in IT strategy planning, technology evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5–8 years of experience in systems engineering, IT infrastructure management, or network administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, macOS) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, load balancing).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation and system management.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Splunk).
  • Familiarity with security frameworks, identity management, and patch management.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities with a collaborative mindset.
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSE, RHCE, AWS Solutions Architect, or CompTIA Server+ are preferred.
