Your Tasks

PhD students at Beiersdorf highly benefit from our supporting Research & Development environment. Beiersdorf deeply cares about skin and aims to maintain healthy skin and to improve diseased skin states. Using a multidisciplinary approach, we aim to explore the role of the skin microbiome for maintaining skin health, being far more than the sheer absence of disease. We seek to gain new insights into the complex interplay of the skin and the microbiome to better understand its role in healthy skin and to derive novel concepts for cosmetic interventions.

You will:

  • Study the host - microbiome crosstalk and its role for maintaining skin health in vitro & ex vivo
  • Design, perform and analyze in vitro experiments
  • Design, prepared, analyze and interpret in vivo studies (incl. communication with study centers).
  • Analyze large data sets and multi-omics data
  • Identify extrinsic and intrinsic key drivers and principles (organisms, proteins, nucleic acids, metabolites, etc.)
  • Evaluate the feasibility to use such drivers and principles as cosmetic treatment
  • Present, discuss and defend data to stake holders
Your Profile
  • Master's degree in Microbiology, Systems Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Life Sciences or in an aligned field
  • Experiences in multi-omics approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) and their analysis
  • Experience in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell culture
  • Experience in microbiome research (skin, gut, etc.)
  • You should have a strong interest in the above-mentioned research area
  • You should be able to work independently and you are characterized by a high level of motivation and commitment
  • Fluent English language skills (spoken and written)
  • German language skills is not a requirement
