Job Description
We are on the lookout for a Data Scientist to join the Consumer, Global Search tribe on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

In our Global Search tribe we provide cutting-edge Search services (Query understanding, Retrieval, Ranking) across all our platforms, impacting millions of customers worldwide. Our search functionality spans more than 60 countries and 35 languages, facilitating over 80 million searches daily across four continents.

In this role you will,

• Develop and Optimize Search Algorithms: You'll research, develop, and optimize advanced machine learning algorithms to improve our search experience. This includes enhancing query understanding, semantic search, spell correction, ranking, personalization, LLM based ontologies, and evaluating search results at scale, all with the goal of providing our users with the most relevant and tailored search experiences.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work as part of a global, cross-functional team, collaborating closely with product managers, analysts, backend engineers, and data engineers to drive end-to-end solutions. Your partnership will be crucial in translating business challenges into impactful data science projects that solve our customers' problems and meet our OKRs.
• Extract Actionable Insights: Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets to uncover meaningful insights into search relevance challenges. You'll effectively communicate these findings to stakeholders, influencing strategy and product direction across different brands and platforms.
• Experiment and Lead Innovation: Identify and apply the best machine learning and AI methods to solve problems within your team. You'll drive the data science work, from ideation to production, ensuring solutions are scalable and effective. You'll also work on proof-of-concepts, leverage emerging trends in Search and AI and show their usefulness in our business context.
• Master Ambiguity: Taking a supporting role in tackling ambiguous business problems. Together with senior members of your team, you will translate these challenges into well-defined data science roadmaps with clear objectives, and confidently navigate uncertainty to deliver tangible results.

Qualifications

• Experience: Master's degree (or Bachelor's with 3+ years of work experience) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar. 2+ years of experience as a data scientist with at least 1+ years in the Search, Recommendation or related domain.
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in SQL and Python and its ML ecosystem is essential. Good knowledge of best practices in software engineering with Python. Understanding of MLOps principles and tools (e.g., MLFlow and Metaflow), and experience working with large-scale data-pipelines is a plus.
• Machine Learning Knowledge: A strong understanding and hands-on experience of classical machine learning, statistical and AI algorithms. You have deep knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas: Learning-2-rank, Transformer architecture, Two-Tower Architecture, Semantic Search, NLP. You should be able to discern the most suitable approach for different problems and be a quick, curious learner who can adapt to new domains.
• Problem-Solving & Agility: You're comfortable with ambiguity and are adept at navigating it to define clear data science problems and solutions. Your strong analytical and problem-solving skills are focused on delivering practical and scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative Spirit: Demonstrated experience working effectively in global, cross-functional teams. You have excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders. You have first experience leading smaller projects end-2-end. You're open-minded and eager to learn from and mentor more junior scientists.
