As a member of the LRZ Q-Crew, you're in the driver's seat developing and providing new tools and methods, working with cutting-edge hardware technologies. In the User Enablement and Applications (UEA) group, the needs and requirements of different user groups are mapped to the development of current and upcoming HPCQC services at LRZ, to ensure to make constantly the best research tools available to our users. In this environment you are pivotal for building unique solutions merging quantum and HPC workflows, advancing the community's research capabilities, and in propelling Bavaria as a global quantum hotspot pushing the boundaries of innovative scientific discoveries achievable with quantum-accelerated computing.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the research and technical activities on the integration of QC into our HPC ecosystem, for use cases in the fields of quantum simulations, optimization, QML and more;
- Support the LRZ users in efficiently leveraging the novel services offered in the field of QC, taking the role of "solution architect" for them;
- Participate to the research projects where LRZ is involved as a partner and help forge new collaborations in the field of QC;
- Interface with several teams within the organization for joint projects and contribute domain-specific expertise at the crossroads between QC, HPC, AI/ML and data management;
- Support reporting project progress, publish outcomes and achievements, and address the requests of project partners.
Basic Qualifications:
- A PhD in one of the following fields: natural sciences, computational science, physics, engineering, or mathematics;
- Good knowledge in quantum computing software and tools;
- Basic knowledge of HPC environment and system software;
- Good programming skills in a compiled programming language (C, C++, Fortran) or an interpreted programming language (Python, Julia, etc.);
- Very good communication skills and collaborative spirit;
- Very good oral presentation and writing skills in English - German proficiency desirable;
- Strong desire to contribute your education, experience, energy and enthusiasm to help build a dynamic and progressive quantum computing team and share in its success.
Preferred Qualifications:
- For a grant project, which the candidate is expected to contribute with a fraction of the working time to, domain science knowledge in computational biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or related fields is useful, but not a must;
- Experience and interest in interacting with partners in grant projects and to align the activities towards the project's milestones and deliverables.
