Munichre Service Limited, part of Munich Re (MR), the world's largest reinsurer, is looking for a Chief Underwriter, Hong Kong & Taiwan to lead the efficient risk management function of Life Health Reinsurance HK. You will develop underwriting, claims, and overall risk assessment and risk management processes and oversee daily team operations.

This is a hybrid position, based in Hong Kong and reports to General Manager, Life and Health, Hong Kong & Taiwan.

Your Role

• Develop risk management strategies and plans following the strategy of Life Health Greater China; organise team activities according to the risk management plans and client prioritisation
• Establish underwriting principles through coordinating with the Regional Office; ensure the underwriting procedures follow MR standards
• Manage the efficient delivery of underwriting and claims management services to support the pricing and client service team in their daily work and consulting projects
• Pioneer product innovation for the Greater China region from an underwriting perspective by conducting direct market research on underwriting practices and products, including any emerging trends in the local and global life insurance market
• Conduct in-depth underwriting audits and assist clients with corrective procedures to resolve any weaknesses
• Develop Centers of Competence in functional areas (e.g. preferred life, GBA project ATLAS, Allfinanz)
• Help promote digital-driven underwriting/ claims solutions to the Greater China insurance markets and act as the centre of excellence to other markets internally within Munich Re group
• Support opinion leadership in the respective class of business by local marketing activities and industry functions (e.g. holding seminars, workshops, specialist presentations, technical publications, interviews)
• Support the Chief Underwriter of Greater China with case handling and special projects required
• Line and functional management: Responsibility for ensuring the employees reporting to this position have the requisite specialist knowledge and qualifications. Further development of the competences required incl. end-of-training evaluations

Your Profile

• Bachelor's degree and professional designations (e.g. CLU, FALU, FLMI)
• 10 years+ experience in underwriting medically substandard, and financially complex life, disability and critical illness risks
• 3+ years of experience as a licensed medical doctor or medical education background preferred
• 5+ years of experience in product development, business administration, project and client relationship management ·
• Sound knowledge of life and health insurance products including non-traditional products and their areas of application
• Proficient in both spoken and written English and Mandarin, Cantonese speaker is preferred
