Job Description
Role Overview
We're hiring a
Staff Product Service Engineer
with deep expertise in
MariaDB and PostgreSQL
to support, optimize, and scale our database-backed services. This role is pivotal in ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability across customer-facing platforms and internal systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical engineer for database operations, focusing on MariaDB and PostgreSQL environments
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues related to database performance, replication, and availability
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design scalable data architectures and service integrations
• Automate routine database maintenance tasks and contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and backup strategies aligned with SLAs and compliance requirements
• Provide guidance on schema design, query optimization, and data lifecycle management
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to service reliability best practices

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with MariaDB and PostgreSQL in production environments
• Strong understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, replication, and failover mechanisms
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning and query optimization
• Experience with backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data migration
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, pg_stat_statements)
• Fluent in German and English (written and verbal)
• Ability to travel to our customer site in Germany.
• Ability to be on-call if required.
• Due to the nature of the role and regulatory requirements for this role, only candidates who are German or EU citizens can be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud-hosted database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL)
• Knowledge of containerized database deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar for automation and tooling
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices related to database changes
